Program Description: (150-250 words)  This interactive floor plan invites you to "Explore Tate Britain" and is available on the home page of the website. It is introduced as "An interactive way to explore the world's largest display of British art from 1500 to the present." The outline of the building and the galleries are portrayed in a 2-D fashion and areas are highlighted as you hover the mouse over them. A short description of the room is given, such as Romantics: Pictures for an Exhibition. The map can be used to identify rooms, artsists' alphabetically, a timeline of British art and a special feature whereby one can construct and print out a personalized tour. The floor plan is approximately a quarter of the screen size, but has the ability to zoom in and move up and down, left and right within the border of the map. Galleries are highlighted in orange and public spaces in grey. One can move through the rooms either by clicking in the map or progress room by room with forward/backward buttons. Double clicking on the room opened up another window in which more detail, including photographs and text, of the works was available.

Firsthand or secondary review/critique: (150-250 words) The Tate Britain can be fairly difficult to navigate as it is in an old building and has had many additions. The map is a great tool for the visitor and gives a very good overview of what is on exhibit. The features available were helpful; one could choose a particular time frame and the map would identify where the works were situated. Finding an artist by name is also very helpful. The "My Tour" tab is a great idea, but the execution left a lot to be desired. First, you need to register, which is not difficult but time consuming. Next you select the works you wish to visit. Sounds easy, but it took a few attempts to add artists as the instructions are difficult to find and rather wordy.  Once you construct your personalized tour, you can print it out. It would have been helpful if a path could be added to your own tour that would help with navigation and location. The map itself is a bit restrictive in size. I tried to print out a full page sized map but was unable to do so. Overall it is a good resource for the visitor, but would benefit from some simple, additional features.
