Program Description: (150-250 words)

The Build the Truce project was created to explore the cycle of modern conflict.  The explores how conflict can escalate and de-escalate, and be prevented or resolved through different themes.  The program is designed for "face-to-face sessions" meaning learning school groups coming to a museum and learning from the museum's educators.  The students will receive tablets to explore modern conflict.  They will start off on a menu screen where there are six different wars to choose from.  Once the student has selected a war, it will take you to the next page where there is a conflict curve bar going horizontally across the middle and then themes at the bottom.  The user can pan across the bottom and touch any theme to explore further.  Once they finish exploring that theme, they can touch the "X" bottom at the top left.  When the user feels they understand the themes, they can drag a theme onto the conflict curve line with their finger.  It is designed like a timeline; the user will put the theme they believe is the beginning, the catalyst, the climax and the truce.  The user can also change the height of the curve making the link "curve" or become vertical in different areas. The purpose of this program is to give students a visual chance to explore conflict through past historic events.  By having the opportunity to create their own conflict curve bar, provides them with the tools to see a pattern of conflict and discuss these patterns.

Firsthand or secondary review/critique: (150-250 words)

The movements and functions for the application are kept fairly simple. This is a good design thought process at work.  The main purpose is for the students to focus on the subject of conflict and stimulating debate, not the new technology.  The program is created to be simplistic and functional for both the students and the educator who is teaching about conflict.  The design is straight forward and very easy to use.

Another good feature about this program is there is an administration log-in for the educator.  This will allow the educator to select any tablet in the group and see the mirror image of that tablets screen.  This is wonderful for when the educator is discussing the results of the student's conflict curve bars.  The educator can simply pull up the screen, display it to the school group and then conduct a discussion.
